"Project Runway": How about a stop sign?

By Eric Rezsnyak on September 11, 2008

Oh, it was a hot time in the old town last night on "Project Runway." There was plenty of hissing and spitting and backbiting, but according to Tim's blog we missed A LOT more. First evictee Jerry behaving like a diva (ha!), Daniel totally coopting Joe's design, and a lot more Terri/Keith drama. I wish they had made this a two-hour episode. All the sniping and bitching -- have we ever had a batch of designers this unpleasant? I don't think so.

I didn't like much of the fashion that was presented, to be frank. I liked LeAnne's interesting carapace-like Scorpio outfit (you can see it, and the rest of the designs, here), and I thought she should have won. But that would make three in a row, and that's never going to happen. Didn't get Jerrell's AT ALL. What the hell did any of it have to do with Sagittarius? I'm totally clueless (although I did like the skirt). Korto's was fine, if a little literal for my tastes. Joe's looked like a better executed version of Daniel's drag queen dress, which makes sense if you consider Tim's assertion that Daniel was basically leading that team. (Which...what?)

And then the losers. I wish they all could have gone home. I turned to my friend when the Bottom 4 -- Kenley, Blayne, Suede, and Terri -- came on the screen and said, "This is a can't-lose proposition, right here." I'm amazed Suede escaped elimination. That thing looked tacky, cheap (a silk jumpsuit?!), and entirely too literal. There was nothing avant-garde about it. If anything it looked like a Prince Jasmine costume from "Aladdin: The Musical." Blayne's was indeed awful, and we've seen very similar things from him before (I'm thinking the New York City challenge). He loves balling up neon fabric and slapping it on a basic garment. I'm just excited that I'll never have to hear a word out of his god-forsaken mouth again. (Or, at least until the reunion, which -- shudder.)

But my real ire is reserved for Kenley and Terri, both of whom destroyed whatever good will I had toward them -- and it wasn't much to begin with. No surprise that Kenley acted like an entitled, bossy brat -- that's been her since the beginning -- but I was SHOCKED at how defensive and nasty she was when defending her ridiculous gown. If you can't look at that piece-of-shit design -- which, again, had NOTHING to do with the Zodiac assignment -- and acknowledge at least some of its flaws, you have no business being on that runway. Nothing in that piece worked. Nothing. The proportions were beyond unflattering, the one big statement -- the shoulder pads -- were cartoonish and boring at the same time, the prints were a horrible mess, and she has done that same skirt at least one other time. So awful. I can't wait to see the judges savage her next time, because you know she pissed some of those guys off.

And then, Terri. I missed the first 10 minutes, so I don't know what transpired between her and Keith in the beginning. I do know there was bad blood between them from earlier in the competition due to perceived slights on Terri's part. But she was AWFUL to him throughout this challenge. She was dismissive at best, and just plain mean at worst, openly ripping on his lack of skill (um, take a memo, Terri -- he actually won a challenge, you never did). Then she bitched about him abandoning her mid-way through, but she was totally marginalizing him and not listening to a word he said. Yeah, Keith is unstable. But it seemed to me that the problem here was the huge bug that crawled up Terri's ass, and her total inability to work with other people. She and Suede had similar problems in their team challenge. I was just thrilled when she was eliminated. Way to totally screw yourself, lady. Now THAT should be a fun discussion at the reunion.

I've been deliberately avoiding Fashion Week coverage so as to not spoil the F3. At this point it seems like LeAnne and Korto are sure things. The third spot is kind of wide open. I just can't imagine Jerrel or Suede getting it, which leaves Joe or Kenley. I desperately hope it's not her, but given how prominent she's been throughout the season, I'd be kind of shocked if it wasn't. God, I hate her...
