"Housewives" follows a pretty clear formula, which is sometimes what makes it so good, and at the same time what sometimes makes it, well, formulaic. If we had a dramatic episode last week (which we did), then we know that this week will be more light and comedic (which it tried to be). Last night's episode was all about the aftermath of the fire, and how our Wisteria Lane peeps are recovering. Mike inhaled a little smoke and will be fine, especially since his and Katherine's affair is now public; Orson broke his nose, causing him to snore loudly and giving Bree an excuse to bitch about something new this week; Lynette and Tom worry that Porter may have started the fire, and so do the police; Dave seems remorseful about starting the fire until at the last second he turns Porter into the police instead; and Carlos may regain his sight, which freaks Gabby out since she is apparently fat and ugly...what?
OK, yes, the producers of DH have gone to great lengths to make us think that Gabby is not the supermodel she used to be, but honestly? All she has to do is put on some makeup, a more flattering outfit, get some highlights and she's the same old Gabby! Instead, we have to pretend, with Edie's nasty help, that she's turned into some out-of-shape fatso. I just ain't buyin' it! And in a show where people are drugging one another, psychopaths are moving in and starting fires, and old rich women are having big Os on the massage table, not believing a simple storyline like Gabby's says a lot! But c'mon, people, she's not fat! Next week we should get our old Gabby back because she will, gasp, put on some makeup!
That being said, this season really has been fantastic, and I have high hopes for next week's episode which, if DH follows its normal formula, will be more on the dramatic side.
A few thoughts and questions: I hate Susan; I will just never give a crap about her storylines. Sorry. I think Edie, while definitely cruel, is underused. What happened to Karen McClusky? I was loving Lily Tomlin as her sister! Where are Penny and Parker Scavo? Will we ever see them again? And do you think Anne Schilling was actually never pregnant? I'm not so sure...
