I feel like I'm the only person watching "Idol" this season. My friends are out. My coworkers are out. It's a lonely road I ride. But at least last night's episode was moderately entertaining. (And only one hour! Thank you, Jeebus!)
My thoughts on the "good" auditions:
Joanna wears too much eye make up. She apparently had a recording contract with A&M and it didn't work out. She has a great recording voice, and is perfect for this show. She seems like a ringer at this point.
Brent Keith is handsome, and good, but bland. I think he might lacking a soul. So he's kind of perfectly tailored to this show. The poor guy got waylaid by a ridiculous feud between the panel. Sometimes I feel bad for the poor kids having to deal with Simon's bullshit.
Matt the piano player is totally awful. He can't actually sing. It's all melisma and tricks and affectations. There's no voice there. Simon compared him to Elliot from S5, but he's much more like Chris from S6 in that he's just mimicking a bunch of current male artists, but never bothered to learn how to sing.
Alexis needs a makeover, but she has a big bluesy voice for such a slight woman. I like her, but I question how diverse and marketable she would be.
Leneshe has a serious case of bitchface. She looks like a mean version of Brandy. But she can sing, and sang a wholly original song that was shockingly not bad. Her sob story kind of sucked. They were poor. Boo-hoo. It's not like she's blind or her wife died four weeks ago. You'll have to do better than that to score my dry, salty tears, Leneshe! That said, I think she could be a very exciting contestant.
And we're off until Tuesday. YAY!
