To be honest, I skipped most of the evening. I decided to catch the surprisingly entertaining "Top Model" clip episode and just flipped over during breaks. Here's what I caught: more "Simon is old" jokes with lame photoshopped pictures, Flo Rida making Pete Burns both filthy rich and incredibly sad, Kellie Pickler doing her best howler monkey impersonation while "singing" her (actually decent) new song, and Anoop, Lil, and Scott ending up in the bottom.
That's about right. Scott and Lil definitely deserved to be there. Anoop was just unlucky enough to be in the middle of the pack, and at this point with dwindling numbers, even the middle is in danger. Lil got sent back to the seats -- I hope she takes this as a kick in the ass, because she's been limping through this competition so far -- and ultimately Scott got the cut.
It was fitting that Paula's speech to Scott at the end basically came down to "People watch 'American Idol' to see inspiring stories like yours." Funny, I thought people watched the show to see good singing. And Scott certainly wasn't TERRIBLE -- I mean, he's no Megan -- but he was definitely the worst singer left in this competition. I do think that he is inspiring, and I bet he's a really great guy. But this isn't "American's Next Top Nice Person," it's a singing competition, and he hung in there for a while. But he never really lived up to his early potential (are you paying attention, Lil?) and he's in a season with Gokey, Kris, Allison, and Adam. I mean...it just wasn't going to happen. But he had a good run.
