"The Fashion Show": The Panty Christ gets crucified

First things first: they changed the theme song. Lame; I really liked the original. Maybe they thought it was too heavy? I can see that, but this new one sounds like a watered-down version. It lacks any personality whatsoever. In fashion terms, it's a cheap knockoff you'd buy down near the Port Authority. Bring back the original.

This was probably the best episode of the show so far. Once again both challenges were cool. The short one tasked the competitors with designing a look for a vegan shoe line. I've never seen anything like it on any of these shows. I thought the right team won, and the right individual. I don't like Johnny as a person, and I certainly don't like his personal style (he's gone from samurai to babushka, it seems), but his shoes were super cute and didn't look like a craft project, like most of the others. I thought the worst were Keith's, which took the plant-based material thing WAY too literally, and James-Paul's, which were just hideous.

The elimination challenge was to create an entire outfit inspired by a single pair of shoes picked from the glam showroom at Bergdorf Goodman. Again, good challenge. And NO MORE TEAMS. Jesus, it only took what, four episodes?

Shit-talking started almost immediately regarding Andrew's alleged tendency to steal other people's designs, specifically by Daniella and Anna. After spying pleating detail on Andrew's skirt, Anna acted like she invented the technique. Reality check, sweetie. But Daniella was the worst. She's such a dismissive bitch, and I can't stand her. She is approaching Kenley Collins levels of hatefulness in my book. What exactly are her credentials? Recent fashion school graduate? Is that where she made those britches she's wearing? Because she seems to be getting awfully big for them. At one point she said she was really impressed with herself. That's the understatement of the decade.

As Isaac said at judging, it was far and away the best fashion show the designers have put together so far. None of the dresses looked like they were falling apart, for one, and some of the design work was really interesting. I don't think it's a coincidence that the level of work went way up once these people weren't forced to collaborate with one another.

Angel, Reco, and Daniella were the Top 3 looks. I agree, even begrudgingly with Daniella. I realized this episode that Reco is essentially a black version of Christian from "Project Runway." He's cocky and annoying, but he's legitimately talented. A point of contention, however: his black bias-strip mini-dress won, and while it was a great look, it was AWFULLY similar to the design Leanne did for the car-parts challenge on "PR5." I know the judges can't bring that stuff up, but the shape, the flaired skirt, everything was VERY similar. Daniella's tight black dress really worked well with her killer shoes, and wasn't just a copy of the footware. Angel's shirt-dress was perfection; an iconic summer look to go with her nautical-themed shoes. I personally would have given the win to Angel (although I worry about her speed - this is the second week in a row where she barely finished the garment before the show started). But really, so long as it's not Daniella. Yuck.

The Bottom 2 were Lidia and Andrew. Merlin's ridiculous Holly Hobby dress should have been up there, as well as Johnny's purple/black mess. It looked like a goth ice-skater outfit. Andrew got called out for his look being boring, average, and uninspired. I agree. I would also add that I hated the fabric, and it seemed completely devoid of connection to the shoe. Lidia's dress was called the "'Nightmare Before Christmas' bride." The guest judge from Manolo Blahnik called her dress out as being amateurish, and yet defended Andrew's frock. I think Andrew's dress looked WAY more simple than Lidia's.

Thankfully Isaac got into with the guest judge. I love Isaac, and thought he was right on. That guy was a ponce. I mean, I like my judges bitchy, but MB dude was out of control. I imagine there were some uncomfortable discussions at Manolo Blahnik HQ this morning. I don't think that guy gave a good impression of his company at all.

In the end Andrew got cut. Right choice. He seemed lost in this competition, and while I think the copying allegations were mostly drummed up, he doesn't seem to have the vision for women's wear. He has a successful line of underwear that is popular with the gays (he calls himself the Panty Christ, and he charges upwards of $50 per pair; he's not hurting), so he should just focus on that. Note that they had Kelly saying the "We're just not buying it" tagline, with Isaac adding a "Bye bye, darling" at the end. I wonder if the producers are realizing just how pointless Kelly is to the proceedings...

I assumed that Andrew was getting cut right from the beginning of the show because he was talking about his underwear line while holding a pair of briefs in silhoulette. I did like his dress, as far as a cute dress to have in your closet when you need something to wear. It certainly didn't grab me the way Angel's dress did. I agree with Fern that if he had some bright colors it would have been better.

Daniella really annoys me as does Reco. I think that Daniella and Anna were making way to much of Andrew's pleating. It was completely different than Anna's skirt, hers was a panel, while his wrapped around the waist.

I think I'm liking Keith's designs best so far... though I wasn't a fan of his shoe design for the vegan challenge.
