Irina started right in with her diva bullshit, saying that since she's won two challenges she is obviously intimidating to the rest of the designers. She mentioned that most of them haven't won a single challenge (not true) and that most of them haven't even been in the Top 3 (definitely not true; I think only Gordana and Logan had not been in the top at this point). All that to say: she is a smug bitch, and the other designers are starting to pick up on it.
The challenge: the designers were presented with new models, as a bunch of regular women came out on stage wearing wedding dresses of various styles and lengths. But this was not a wedding dress challenge; this was a divorce dress challenge. All of the women were divorced, or on their way to being divorced. Some of them were still going through the process, others had been divorced for more than a decade, and they wanted to turn their old wedding dresses into something they could wear to get on with their new lives. And it was a one-day challenge. I feel like we've had a LOT of those this season.
The designers picked their models, and were told that they would be allowed to buy only two additional yards of fabric at Mood. That meant that many of the designers went about dying (many of them went with variations on gray, which I found strange), and Epperson went with the fairly bizarre idea to use as little of the wedding dress as possible. That...defeats the purpose of this challenge, right?
Meanwhile, Shirin was in big trouble. Her divorcee had a very simple, very small, 100 percent polyester dress, and she estimated that it contained something like two yards of fabric period. The divorcee had all these crazy ideas, highlighted by her desire to have something that looked very "Cher ‘Half-Breed'" with peacock feathers. So Shirin's client was a drag queen? Or was married to one? Shirin had a breakdown, and bemoaned that she was crying next to Tim Gunn. I say, if you have to cry next to someone, you could do worse than Tim Gunn.
During Tim's check-in, he also had deep concerns about Logan's idea to create a tuxedo look using this fugly wool fabric, and he encouraged Gordana to push the look as far as possible, since the judges routinely - and I would argue totally incorrectly - ding her for not pushing her vision. And he also explicitly said to Epperson that the designers had to use the dress for the majority of the look, and he realized he needed to basically start over.
During fittings most of the women really liked their outfits, with the exception of poor Shirin's divorcee, who was totally annoying and demanding. I cannot imagine why she ended up living in Splitsville. Logan was way behind schedule, and Irina's Shit Talk Express made a stop when she informed us that his outfit looked crazy.
Judging: Once again Nina Garcia was gone. Where the fuck is Nina? She has been in like two episodes this season. Bullshit. Irina's dress looked good; she took the gobs of fake lace on the original dress to create a sleek cocktail dress, albeit with really wide flappy shoulders. I may dislike her, but I respect her talent. Shirin's dress looked very basic and had a strange fit in back, but it was at least cute. Logan's model looked awful, the fit was all wrong, the ruffle around her neck made her look chesty in all the wrong ways, the fabric was cheap looking...blech. Carol Hannah's dress was totally fierce, with the whispy taffeta of the original garment transformed into a much more interesting texture. Althea's outfit was blue, sailor-esque, and cute. Nicolas's outfit looked like a craft project, and his model's neck appeared to be molting. Gordana's dress was shredded looking and texturally interesting, with a biased neckline; it was also really form-fitting. Christopher's dress looked terrible; my roommate said she looked like she was wearing a clear garbage bag. A stumpy garbage bag, I would add. Epperson's dress looked like a milkmaid, and yet totally boring. How did that happen?
Top/Bottom: Shirin, Gordana, Logan, Epperson, Christopher, Irina. Finallly, FINALLY, Gordana got some props, the judges said it was edgy, chic, and did some great things to her body. Christopher's dress was called "tin foil," "space bubble," and "cinched Hefty bag." That's about right. And he wanted to send that poor woman to acting industry functions in that piece of shit! Heidi called Epperson's dress "Oktoberfest," while the guest judge from Jimmy Choo called it "pirate's wench." HA HA HA! The judges were nasty to him (but funny).
The judges ended up loving Shirin's dress - surprising to me - although up close I could appreciate what she did with stitching to give it a pattern. But I maintain that the back was a mess. Logan's outfit looked even worse up close, and Heidi was speechless. NotNina called it unflattering, while the fourth judge called it a tragedy to make a woman look that bad. The judges really loved Irina's dress, which was almost entirely made from the original dress, with the exception of the sash. I will say, I was not a fan of the sleeves.
Gordana was named the winner! YAY! I feel like I've been redeemed as much as she has. The Bottom 2 ended up being Logan and Epperson, and between the two of them the clear choice for cutting would be Logan. He has done nothing of note throughout this competition, and Epperson has made at least two killer looks. And yet, for reasons I'm still not sure about, Epperson was eliminated. Can someone explain to me the rationale behind that one? Logan's outfit was a total fail from start to finish. I get that that Epperson kind of missed the assignment, but, at least he tried to course correct. Logan was going down the wrong road from the beginning. Odd, and sad. I liked Epperson.

I was really upset and confused over the decision to send Epperson home over Logan. I actually really liked Epperson's outfit and thought he was in the top 3, not the bottom, when they kept him on stage! That said, even if they thought the look was costume-y, it was at least well-made whereas Logan's outfit was HORRIBLE. The hem I had to put on the tall pants I bought on clearance looked better than his and I am not a good seamstress!
Plus, to echo Eric's thoughts, Epperson has had some really good work on the show and Logan has never been in the top 3 -- I think everyone else has (including Gordana for the Blue challenge - even though Irina won).
Anyway, between the bad choices they are making and spotty appearances by the judges, this season is really pissing me off...

I'm particularly disappointed with this season, the judges are particularly knife happy with the people who are more "different". Like there is "concept" in the dress, but its not well made to another which is boring, but at least it looks like a dress. Going with that trend, this episode, it should be Logan who gets the axe. But they just had to axe Epperson who was doing quite well. The line that Heidi Klum always say at the start of each episode, "one day you are in and, the next could be out." Well at least we can all see they still kept that. Well at least we know that Epperson can still do well out there without the help of this show.
