After seemingly endless filler, this week's Rolling Stones continued with Season 7 winner David Cook coming out to growl his way through "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Honestly, I thought he sounded terrible. I hated what he did to the song. You can change songs in my book - I encourage it for the contestants on this show - but this didn't even sound like the original even a little bit. It didn't sound contemporary. The whole thing seemed terribly desperate to me. I don't mind David Cook - I hated his season, but I don't mind him - but if this was supposed to reignite my interest in his career, it failed miserably. It just went on and on and on. I lost count of the guitar solos. I know they needed to fill time, but a, like, five-minute version of this song was not the way to do it.

First "Idol" Ford commercial of the season, this one set to "Tick Tick Boom." The idols drove around in cars and threw paint balloons at each other. Eh. Apparently Casey missed it, because he was sick with the flu. Lucky dog. But between this and Paige's laryngitis, and Crystal's mysterious illness a few weeks back, this has been a season of sickness so far. Then the contestants had to do their own custom graphics for the Ford Fiesta, and seriously Ford, aren't you getting enough out of these kids already? Shameful.

Results: Paige was up first, and she was in the bottom. Totally fine with that. Lee was next, and after Ryan tormented him a bit, he was safe. Siobhan was up third; her routine elicited strong reactions, both positive and negative. Personally, I love her, and she is my bizarre pixie for this season. She was safe. Aaron Kelly acquitted himself better than I expected, but he still seems like an early boot to me. He's inconsistent, and I think Tim Urban will pull the screaming teen votes. But he was safe this week.

Andrew and Tim were asked to stand simultaneously, so one of them would be in the bottom. Of the two, Andrew deserved to be in danger. Tim was boring perhaps, but Andrew simply didn't sound good. When asked for her opinion, Kara told the guys that they were both awful last night. Alas, it was Tim in the bottom. That's interesting; DialIdol had Andrew with the lowest amount of votes.

Ryan then introduced Orianthi as a "new pioneer" of rock. Um, there is nothing pioneering about this girl's work. She sang "According to You," and while she can play guitar, she's another in this long line of modern-day pop singers who cannot sing live. She had zero presence, and looked as though she just wanted to go out for a smoke throughout the entire song. I understand that it's cool for the current young generation to put on this whole faux-disaffected thing, but can't they at least attempt to put a little effort into playing on the biggest show on television, in front of millions of viewers? Sigh.

More results: Didi was good last night, and I like her, but she needs to really ratchet up the energy. She will not clear Top 6 if she can't get some momentum going. She was safe. Crystal was earnest some more, when she explained again that she has never considered herself a lock for the win. She also smartly said that she knew it was going to get harder as the theme weeks went on, and I am worried about that with her. Anyway, she was safe. Katie Stevens got up and blathered a bit, and then all Hell broke loose when Ryan asked the judges about what type of music Katie should sing. Kara said pop/r'n'b, Simon said country, Ellen said mariachi. I would like her to not sing at all. She was safe. Big Mike made some lame plea to "the people" - whatever - but was safe.

That left Casey and Lacey, both of whom did more or less OK, but both of whom were also fairly forgettable. Of the two, Lacey should be in the bottom. I just don't think she's at all memorable, and I'm still surprised she made it to the Top 12. And indeed, she joined Tim and Paige in the hot seats. Ryan paraded them out, and asked Ellen if one of them would be worth using The Save. Ugh, I'm so annoyed they brought that back this year. Remember how they wasted it on Matt Giraud last year? Ellen waffled a bit, before Simon said that one of them would be worth it. I'm betting he's talking about Paige, and I wholeheartedly disagree. People keep raving about her, and I just don't get what makes her so special.

Hilariously, Tim - probably the most-hated contestant of the season - was sent back to safety. Vote for the Worst victory!

And then - oh, and then: KE$HA. I fucking hate this girl. I mean, HATE. I find her beyond obnoxious. She's just so desperate for attention and gross. Even my 3-year-old niece thinks she's trashy. Her music IS catchy, and she can sing, which makes it even more annoying in a sense. She came out dressed in a Lady Gaga Halloween costume and danced around the stage with people wearing TV screens that played her image, until 3OH!3 joined her on stage for their little rap. Then she ran off and came back out in an Native American headdress. Memo to Ke$ha: you are trying entirely too hard, my dear. I would be so delighted if she just suddenly evaporated into a mist of sweat and Axe body spray. The world would be the richer for it, I tell you.

Finally it was down to just Paige and Lacey, the two women who arguably shouldn't have even made it into the Top 12 (hello, Katelyn and Lilly). And the person with the fewer number of votes was Lacey. I cannot imagine that the judges would waste the save on her. She sang "The Story," her best song from semi-finals, while the judges considered things, but ultimately they unanimously decided to not keep her around. Right decision, and certainly an understandable cut. If only we could have lost both of the Bottom 2 at once and lopped a week off this terrible season....

Well, Lacey got eliminated and its not too emotional only because she was never really a favorite but she wasn’t nearly the worst either. I guess the hardest part was that this would have been her second attempt which means she’s got some inkling of a real future in singing but probably will be very niche, like the cardigans or sixpense. Otherwise I stick to my opinion that Siobhan will take it all and Crystal will be the runner up. Please share your opinions on my public opinion poll website at www.baduku.com/americanidol9, thanks.

The way you feel about Paige is definitely the way I feel about Didi, why is she still there.

Paige is good and she can definitely sing.

You are absolutely out of your mind on your assessment of David Cook. He is one amazing talent- wonderful voice, oozes charisma, and has a heart of gold to boot. He is already a multi-platinum selling artist. If you don't care for his sound, fine, but you don't need to insult him the way you did or drag him through the mud. Shame one you.

I would have voted off Paige/Aaron/Andrew before booting Lacey....perhaps this will all sort itself out over the next few weeks? I think every year there is an element of weird voting in the beginning. Simon likes Paige?....are you kidding????

Totally agree that the performers last night were appalling. Remember Lady Gaga last year? I want more of that! and David Cook ('some high highs and some low lows'....JESUS!)

I keep thinking I will be done with this show. Yet here I am again keen for next week.

Crystal had uncontrolled Diabetes that sent her to hospital...isn't that the story?

Just a quick comment. Do people still not realize that this is a blog? That instead of attacking the writer's view, be respectful and make your point why you feel the opposite way.

I am a fan of David Cook, voted for him, bought the album, blah blah blah, but was not a fan of that performance. But I'm also not a Stones fan.

Recently on Opie and Anthony they were talking about Keisha and had a personality that is on the show a bit sing her song using the auto-tune and sounded excatly the same....
