EVENTS: Metro Justice Alternative Fair

The malls may have their Santas, but Metro Justice's Alternative Fair has the real spirit of the holidays.

Kids and adults alike can model peace on Earth and good will toward all people as they visit a wide range of vendors offering earth-friendly, locally produced gifts including toys, non-competitive games, clothing, pottery, jewelry, and fair trade imports. With many items priced for less than $5, shoppers of all ages can put their money where their heart is.

Don't know what to give your kids? How about the gift of empowerment. Stop by the Walking with Animals booth and meet a group of children making a difference in the world. This organization of 9- through 12-year-olds raises money for abused animals by selling hand-crafted items and baked goods.

Free child care offered throughout the fair will feature games, toys, and crafts. Kids may encounter additional craft opportunities at vendors' tables.

New this year is a "locavore" emphasis. All food served will be grown or produced within a 100-mile radius of Rochester. Six bucks gets you a vegetarian lasagna dinner with a salad and bread. Sandwiches - including PB&J - and desserts start at a mere $3. While you dine, enjoy live music ranging from jazz, boogie, and folk to classical piano.

Metro Justice's Alternative Fair takes place at the handicapped-accessible First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 South Winton Road, on Friday, November 30, 6-9:30 p.m., and Saturday, December 1, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Suggested donation $3, under 12 free. Go to www.metrojustice.org or call 325-2560.

I am so sorry. I was suppose to work at the fair. I had in my head that it was this Saturday, the 5th of Dec. Please keep me on the list for next year. Once again...sorry.
Patty
