Even though drive-in movies are seemingly dead, watching flicks outdoors in the summer is not. Movies at the Beach, held every Tuesday at Ontario Beach Park, and Movies at the Bowl, held every Thursday at Highland Park Bowl, are back this year and will run through the second week of August.
Movies at the Bowl, a free family-focused fete, will showcase such films as "Shrek the Third" (July 10), "The Polar Express" (July 24), and "Alvin and the Chipmunks" (July 17). There are plenty of winners on the list, but the must-see is "Horton Hears a Who" (August 7). The recent Dr. Seuss-inspired computer-animated film follows the story Horton the elephant (Jim Carrey) as he struggles to protect the microscopic Whoville community, who live on a speck atop a flower. Fellow comedians Steve Carell,Seth Rogen, and Carol Burnett round out the all-star cast.
Movies at the Beach, on the other hand, is more for the teen/adult crowd, with PG and PG-13 rated films including "Jaws" (July 8), "Batman Begins" (July 15), and "The Simpsons Movie" (August 12). For complete listings or for more information, call 753-PARK or visit monroecounty.gov.
If the weather's not looking so great, try the free family film series at Regal Henrietta (525 Marketplace Drive) and Regal Eastview (off Route 96 in Victor). Double-feature G- and PG-rated films begin at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Henrietta, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Eastview now through August 28. Some this year's selections include "Charlotte's Web," "Curious George," and "Evan Almighty." For a complete listing or for more information, call 424-3090 or visit regmovies.com.
