Rafe Martin is an internationally known author and storyteller. He also happens to live in Rochester. This week he performs as part of a fundraiser for the Cobblestone School.

Over his two-decade career Martin has written nearly two-dozen children's books. Much of his work is rooted in traditional stories, but the stories remain relevant today. They tap into enduring questions about identity, place, and purpose. As he told City in a 2003 interview, "Children's literature is one of the real refuges for [the] mature inner state. Wonder is not childish."

Martin's writing has earned him American Library Association Notable Book Awards, Parent's Choice Gold Awards, and more. His storytelling work has captivated children and adults across the globe, and included presentations at the National Storytelling Festival, the Joseph Campbell Foundation Festival of Myth, Folklore, and Story.

Rafe Martin performs Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at Asbury First Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue. Tickets cost $5 ($15 max per family) and proceeds benefit the Cobblestone School. For more information call 271-4548 or visit cobblestone.org.
