Animal planet

For more than 30 years Sally Reaves has worked as an animal advocate, rescuing animals in need and trying to reach out to children with wildlife education. As part of that mission she founded WOWEE- World of Wildlife Educational Encounters - with the goal of introducing kids to animals up close and
personal. In addition to offering programs for birthday parties and school districts, WOWEE is in the process of setting up a center in the Main Street Armory. A fund-raising event this weekend will help to make that happen.
WOWEE's first Wildlife Extravaganza will include animal exhibits, a petting zoo, animal-related games, a silent auction, and all kinds of animal programming. At noon Reaves will present "Unconventional Critters," in which she will introduce her "animal ambassadors," many of them exotic pets that were rescued from families that couldn't take care of them. Following that panels focus on reptiles, monkeys and primates, penguins, and wildlife management.
The Wildlife Extravaganza takes place Sunday, May 4, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Main Street Armory, 900 East Man Street. Admission costs $2.50-$5, or $10 maximum per family. For more information call 226-3123 or visit woweewildlife.org.
