EVENTS: Winter Break

Didn't they just get a week off like a month ago? Whoever said being a kid is tough sure didn't look at their school vacation schedules.

Winter Recess takes place for most area schools February 18-22. But the nasty weather outside shouldn't be an excuse for the kids to sit around playing Wii. There are tons of events going on that week; below you'll find just a small selection. -WBEE's Kids Fest starts things off early Saturday, February 16, with games and activities at Total Sports Experience in Gates. wbee.com.

-Also on Saturday the Seneca Park Zoo holds Bunk with the Beasts, an overnight at the zoo that features games, a night-time tour of the zoo, food, and more. senecaparkzoo.org.

-Spend quality time with your kids at the Father/Daughter Mother/Son Dinner Dance Saturday at South Avenue Community Center. 428-6015, cityofrochester.gov.

-Monday through Wednesday Tops Cooking School on Mt. Read Boulevard hosts a Winter Break Cooking Camp for kids 7-11. topsmarkets.com.

-Brantling Ski Slopes in Sodus hosts a Ski/Snowboard Camp Monday through Wednesday for kids 6 and up. brantling.com.

-YMCA's Camp Arrowhead is home to a Winter"Summer"Campfor grades 3-8 Monday through Friday, with hiking, snowshoeing, and other outdoor events. 383-4590, ymcacamparrowhead.org.

-Genesee Country Village & Museum holds its Winter Recess Frolic Monday-Friday, with snow games, crafts, walks, and more. gcv.org.

-RMSC presents "The Earth, The Moon, and The Stars," a series of programs all week long that include special planetarium shows, eclipse-based activities, and more. rmsc.org.

-Strong National Museum of Play's Stinky School-Break Week features activities based on its "Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body" all week long. nationalmuseumofplay.org.
