A world of women
The Rochester Contemporary Art Center will present “Earth Tones Women,” a celebration of food, music, and dance for Rochester International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, at 137 East Avenue from 1 to 3:30 p.m. A photographic exhibit by Jamie Columbus that honors women around the world will also be on display through Sunday, March 15.
One fish, two fish
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will hold a meeting to obtain comments on the Lake Ontario fish community on Tuesday, March 10, at RIT’s Ingle Auditorium at 7 p.m. Information: 226-5324.
Phil’s war film
“Body of War,” the documentary film co-written and directed by Phil Donahue that follows the life of a paralyzed Iraq War veteran, will be shown on Friday, March 6, at First Unitarian Church, 220 Winton Road South, at 7 p.m.
Planning for wildlife
The Penfield Green Initiative will host a talk with the DEC’s Jim Eckler about wildlife habitat and open-space planning on Monday, March 9, at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road, at 7 p.m.
ROCLA’s rice and beans dinner
The Rochester Committee on Latin America will hold its annual Rice and Beans Dinner on Friday, March 13, at Gates Presbyterian Church, 1049 Wegman Road. (Note the new location.) Reservations: 293-3194.
What it takes to run
MCC will show Jason Pollock’s documentary film “The Youngest Candidate,” which follows the political campaigns of four candidates and their education about fair play, leadership, racism, and family in politics on Thursday, March 5, at the Damon City Campus (downtown), Room 4151 at 4 p.m.
Eat for peace
The Downtown United Presbyterian Church will host Peace Meal, a declaration of peace fund raiser. Gather for dinner and music on Saturday, March 7, at 121 North Fitzhugh Street at 7 p.m. Suggested donation: $15. RSVP: 464-0718.
Women in politics
The League of Women Voters will host an International Women’s Day dinner meeting on Thursday, March 5, at the Northfield Inn, 3001 Monroe Avenue, at 5:30 p.m. There will be a panel discussion on the challenges, barriers, and opportunities faced by women who run for political office.
Tax the rich
The Fair Share Tax Reform Campaign will hold a rally in Rochester on Thursday, March 5, at the Liberty Pole (downtown) near East Main Street and East Avenue at 5 p.m. Supporters of Fair Share Tax Reform do not want Governor David Paterson to close his budget gap by cutting education and health care programs that support lower-income households.
