Here is additional information regarding the Genesee Valley Trail Heritage ride:
Title: Genesee Valley Trail Heritage Ride (sponsored by the Rochester Cycling Alliance as part of Rochester Bike Week)

Summary: This easy-paced ride with several rest stops is ideal for children over fifteen, their parents and bicycle enthusiasts with a love of Rochester history. The ride begins at the Genesee Valley Park City Recreation arena and follows the west bank of the Genesee River northward to the Susan B. Anthony Preservation District and returns back along the east side of the river.

This circuit includes four historic former canal routes: Genesee Valley Canal (west side of river), Erie Canal along Broad Street, the Feeder Canal along the east riverfront and the Barge Canal at Genesee Valley Park. Follow historic Indian trails,
encounter Underground Railroad sites, visit a forgotten Civil War training camp, see the remains of a 19th century oil refinery, tour the Susan B. Anthony Preservation District, cross the Aqueduct, explore the Johnson Seymour mill race and savor the Frederick Law Olmsted landscape treasures. Several stops will provide opportunities to hear about the significance of the sites.

Riders under eighteen must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets required. Bright-colored (high visibility) clothing recommended.

The Rochester Cycling Alliance was formed in September, 2009 to advocate for better bicycling infrastructure and a stronger voice for cyclists in Rochester and Monroe County, NY. The RCA draws it members from all areas of the community and welcomes all types of cyclists.
