These categories are very bland. What about "Best Ethnic Restaurant" or "Friendliest Staff at a Local Store". Lets get some more interesting categories next time!

I agree. I feel like a lot of the good categories are gone! What happened?!
Eric said on Sep. 03, 2009 at 11:57am
Thanks for the notes on the categories this year. Sorry some of you are disappointed with some of the omissions. We try to shake up the ballot every year by adding new categories and deleting others. Some categories are deemed to broad, some are too limited, and others are just unpopular.
However, we take your feedback very seriously, and if there's a category or two you feel we should have included, please let us know by commenting below. Consider this the 101st category: Best Category We Forgot to Include.

For some reason, I can't open the file to cast my vote but please know that my favorite bartenders in Rochester are Joe Siranni and Rebeeca Nucelli at the Strathallen where I go to listen to jazz on the weekends. I must tell you, these two bar servers are awesome just to watch ... their tremendous energy, the way they maneuver behind the bar together in serving scores and scores of customers and and their enthusiasm to provide superior service is unparalleled. It is refreshing to observe two people who genuinely enjoy their work. They are truly "the best!"

Please feature a category for best place to get a massage. Spas are so last year and you never get the best massage there anyway. Retreat House Massage & Wellness Ctr. gives the best massage in Rochester!

Glad to be apart of this! I thought the catagories were fine, but deciding on one pizza place especially is impossible, haha.
Dorje Adornments should definately take the cake on piercing studio - Nick will ALWAYS take care of you, he is trustworthy, clean, precise, friendly and honest!

Roc City Roller Derby!
Why is there no category for "Best sports non-profit with fishnets in the team uniforms?" The girls feel slighted by its absence. I'll have to nominate them for best local sports team to make up for it.

Gigis has great food and great service. The owners are down to earth and very accomodating. If you like Italian food and big portions, pick Gigis. You'll be full and satisfied.

I second what Paul said...I love Gigi's! They have the best chicken french and a fantastic lunch menu for catering.

I'm so bummed that I didn't read this email in time....I would have voted hands down for Atlas as the BEST Cover Band. I was introduced to this awesome band in 2000 when Fulton used to have their Jazz Fest. Coming from Maryland, I had not had the chance to hear any "local bands" at the time. I fell in love the first time I heard them. They have the best sound, voice, and most important, personality. Now, if we could just talk them into doing "Reminiscing" by Little River Band. This piece is PERFECT for them. If you know them, tell them, please.

Under the Farmers' Market Categorie... The Monroe Ave market is actually called the Monroe Village Farmers' Market...
Happy voting...

You should make this "final ballot" thing clearer. I want to make sure you count my vote for Juan & Maria's Empanada Stop (they're in the finals for the Meals under $10 category) and I'm not certain if this is the right place to make my final vote.
Matt Jesse said on Oct. 10, 2009 at 11:37am
Tilt & Jon Herbert, Jeremiahs, Love Hate and Dorje are the best of rochester.
end of story.

Joe's Brooklyn Pizza is the best in Rochester!!! We drive over an hour twice a month just to get their amazing Garlick Pizza!! They are wonderful and friendly and the pizza is OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One time the owner found out that we drove so far just to get a slice and he sent us home with some fresh garlic pizza compliments of him cause they had run out from being so busy. They have my vote for sure!!!!

Kimberly and Beck from the Breakfast Buzz....great radio personalities! Everyone should vote for them! :)
Aurora said on Oct. 11, 2009 at 7:21pm
I agree with all who would like more (and better) categories. Like, 'Best Plate' (Roch. is known for their plates, aren't they?) 'Best Hot Dogs?' or, 'Best place to propose?' I'm sure there are a lot more good ideas. Some of the categories this year were dumb, and some major ones were missing.
Liz said on Oct. 13, 2009 at 12:30am
I am absolutely THRILLED that Patty and DJ Darkwave are up for honors (both from Vertex.) They are both wonderful people! and are great at their jobs.
Btw, i agree with the person who said there should've been a 'best garbage plate' category.

Instead of cheap fill in's there where no clothing boutiques mentioned. Shame too because Aaron's Alley along with Naughty & Nice don't have catorgories.

Buzzo was a HUGE omission! ;-)

I personally believe that aside from Rachel Barnhart from 13 WHAM, my websites (http://www.midtownplazamall.com) and (http://www.greecemallhistory.com) are the Best of Rochester!!!
Leo Andrew said on Oct. 15, 2009 at 2:04pm
Please do make better choices the next time. These are too general to choose from. But I do recommend this band. Their music renditions and vocals are at top hit! Do follow this link to see: www.centrestageband.net

What happened to the category "Best Corner Store"? For years, our neighborhood store, The Corner Store, has won that category. I wanted to get to vote for it.

I TOTALLY VOTED FOR THE BUDDHAHOOD AS BEST ORIGINAL BAND! ! ! NO ONE CAN COMPARE TO THE FORCE THESE GUYS (AND GAL RIGHT) BRING TO EACH SHOW! A TESTIMENT TO PERCIVERANCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY. VOTE BUDDHAHOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
beespost said on Oct. 20, 2009 at 10:06pm
The BUDDHAHOOD is the best original band in Rochester! Despite tragically losing one of its original members it has continued to grow and redefine itself. You can't go to a Buddha show without tapping your feet and moving your body. It just happens!
Barb said on Oct. 21, 2009 at 2:51pm
Of course I voted for the Buddhahood! They are so unique and awesome. No other city has a band like this. Their sound is amazing and they make you want to dance.

Survey Monkey isn't working properly for this final ballot!
Eric said on Oct. 23, 2009 at 11:53am
To LB: Survey Monkey appears to be working fine; literally thousands of people have taken the survey so far, including dozens in the past few hours.
If you're getting a screen that encourages you to sign in and start your own survey, that means someone on your computer has already taken the Final Ballot. The software prevents computers from taking a survey more than once, to avoid ballot stuffing.
guest said on Oct. 25, 2009 at 5:50pm
really lame categories. the obvious ones were missing. maybe city should have a poll to see what categories to put in the poll because the people who have left comments came up with obviously way better stuff without much effort.
Janel said on Oct. 28, 2009 at 9:04am
anyone else having a problem opening the page? i seem to always have this problem with surveymonkey for some reason...
Deb said on Oct. 29, 2009 at 7:56am
I just came to the end of the ballot, and didn't see the category of "Best local Theatre Company," which was definitely on the original ballot. It seemed there were quite a few categories missing on this final vote for some reason...???
Eric said on Oct. 29, 2009 at 9:05am
To Deb: I suspect you may be confusing City Newspaper's Best of Rochester with the Democrat & Chronicle's Rochester's Choice. We never had a Best Local Theater Company category this year (although it' something we may add next year, since we always change things up), and all of the categories from the primary ballot are present on the final ballot.
Stacy said on Oct. 29, 2009 at 8:53pm
I also can't open the surveymonkey. I've tried a few times now. Did Equal grounds make the top of the list? Mostly looking to vote for them. I loved the space as a kid when it was a hardware store and love it still as a coffee shop. The ballot stuffing thing makes sense, but don’t quite a few households have more then one adult?

Eric said on Oct. 30, 2009 at 9:18am
Just a note, folks: You have to actually take the ballot (click the link in the article) for your vote to count. Just leaving a comment here does not work.
