GAMES: "WarioWare: Smooth Moves"
By Phillip Miner on Feb. 28th, 2007
Gamers have been positively salivating over the possibilities that the Wii remote could bring to gaming. And thanks to the recently released WarioWare: Smooth Moves, gamers get to experience them in rapid succession. The WarioWare series of games has often been used to show off the capabilities of Nintendo's hardware, such as the touch screen of the Nintendo DS in WarioWare: Touched, and on the Wii, WarioWare demonstrates the Wii's capabilities quite well --- and possibly faster than you can compute.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves is set up around a simple concept: a collection of mini-games numbering in the hundreds is assembled, and then thrown at you, one at a time, for you to complete. It's your job to figure out what to do in each mini-game, do it within the time allotted, and then repeat with the next mini-game, going faster and faster, unto infinity, or until you go crazy, whichever comes first. This simple concept combined with the Wii remote can lead to some truly hilarious situations. One moment you could be partaking in a quick-draw contest, the next you could be directing a robot to pick up garbage, the next flapping your arms wildly to keep yourself afloat via balloon. There are plenty of ways to make yourself look like an idiot, and have a good time doing it.
The Wii remote sensing isn't perfect --- there are some instances where you could move exactly as prescribed by the mini-game and for some reason it's not recognized. The single-player story mode is also too short. However, these are minor gripes, and for those who own a Wii, this is definitely a game worth picking up, and hopefully an indicator of quality games to come.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves is a Wii exclusive, and is rated E10 for everyone ages 10 and up.
