Last year was my first experience with the Dachshund Parade. I met up with another fur-loving friend and we settled down on a bench with our Mickey D's coffees and breakfast sandwiches, and began to giggle. So many hotdog dogs! Way more colors and types than we knew of. And after we did the sing-along of doggie tunes, watched the costume judging, and petted just about every one of the hundreds of doggies that paraded by, we were still giggling. Right then we decided it would be a yearly tradition. There's no better way to start your weekend then by giggling at and petting dogs.
So, this year when I asked my friend if she was free on Saturday morning, her response was that she had tons of things to do. "But, it's the Dachshund Parade!" All of her plans were immediately rescheduled. But, alas, come day of parade, and it's hot. Real hot. She didn't want to take the hour drive in, and I can't blame her. But the heat didn't stop the more than 300 wiener-dogs from enjoying themselves. They rolled around in the cool grass; it's such a fun-loving breed. Washington Square Park is the perfect park for this as it's nicely shaded.
There's not really much to report that hasn't already been written. It's simply a lovely way to start a day. Sing songs, pet puppies, and maybe eat a hot dog. Yay!
Next up: Knit in Public Day

To Kurt: Not sure how that happened, but it has been fixed again. But now I'm hungry for an RBLT.
