Born in Mt. Morris, tenor saxophonist Pat LaBarbera is a member of one of Upstate New York's legendary jazz families. (His brothers are drummer Joe LaBarbera and trumpeter John LaBarbera.) Since graduating from Berklee College of Music, he's played with Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones, and many others. Now a prominent educator in Toronto, LaBarbera still has great chops, which will be prominently on display when he sits in at the Strathallan this week.
Pat LaBarbera plays Friday, July 18, at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 19, at 9:30 p.m. at the Grill at Strathallan, 550 East Ave. Free. 461-5010.

Being a local lad from Perry, I remember the LaBarbera brothers from the 60s and 70s. ( I played a number of instruments.) Being a long friend of Bob LaDelfa, he has re-introduced me to the LaBabera brothers by sharing with me some of your music. I must say, I am truly impressed, to say the least. Short story...... My niece's son, Jonathon is in 8th grade, plays alto sax and is uniquely interested in jazz. My first thought, of course, was you and your brothers "Sticks" and John. Truly a story in itself. He asked if I'd copy some of my jazz CDs, which of course I did with the help of Bob. Right now I am listening to "On The Wild Side" Truly phenominal. Best of luck to you and your brothers.
