Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" - a biting, full-throttled condemnation of the social and economic iniquities of the Vietnam War - remains one of rock's greatest protest songs, and stands as perhaps John Fogerty's crowning achievement as a singer and songwriter. (This despite the fact that he sold it to Wrangler for a jeans commercial several years ago). Since the heavily honored CCR broke up in the early 70's, Fogerty has carved out a successful, Grammy-winning solo career anchored by his ability to stay true to the rock ‘n' roll basics. (However, if I hear "Centerfield" even one more time at Frontier Field or any high-school baseball game, I will not be held responsible for my actions.)
John Fogerty plays Thursday, August 7, 7:30 p.m. at CMAC, 4355 Lakeshore Dr, Canandaigua. $45-$75. 232-1900.
