AMERICANA: Lucinda Williams (10/12)

The last time alt-country maven Lucinda Williams came to town, it was to the Armory, where the mix was loud, muddy, and echo-y. It didn't matter - she was great to look at, her voice was a treat to hear, and the fact of her presence made up for any sound snafus. Besides, Charlie Louvin was on the bill with her, so I was too busy being star struck to really care about the sound. This time around, the pretty lady's touring with backing band Buick 6 (members include her collaborator Doug Pettibone, bassist David Sutton, ex-Eels drummer Butch Norton, and Chet Lyster, who also worked with the Eels) and promoting a new record, "Little Honey," to be released October 14. From what the reviews are saying, it's a touch sunnier than previous platters. It'll be fun to find out.
