ROCK: Zona Mexicana (1/8)

The appearance of this new trio allows Rochester audiences to get up close and personal with versatile drummer Cameron Wisch, who pulled off the challenging drum parts on indie darling Ra Ra Riot's critically acclaimed debut album while he was still in high school. Left to his own devices, Wisch likes to run freely between technically demanding styles. Zona Mexicana not only straddles the line between the precision of math-rock and the basement-party energy of hardcore, but it captures the most satisfying aspects of both. The band has a way of recalling underground rock's late-90's golden age while still sounding strangely timeless, yet timely.
