AMERICANA: The Felice Brothers (3/13)

The Felice Brothers were birthed in a Catskills nest only about a half hour from Woodstock, NY. Even closer to their home is the spot where The Band laid the foundation for "Music From Big Pink." Of course, these are big bears for the young quintet to wrestle with - in comparison to those titans of the 60's and 70's, The Felice Brothers (three-fifths of whom are actual brothers) aren't quite as hard-edged or blues-rock obsessed. Pulling more from acoustic sing-along jam sessions, Cajun zydeco, and Appalachian folk, the scrappy group harmonies spice the tunes with an all-inclusive, open-air feel, which the band has capitalized on, in its short time, through regular outdoor festival gigs (including '08 appearances at Bonnaroo and All Points West). The Felice Brothers' proper debut came last year on Conor Oberst's Team Love label. The band visits Rochester in anticipation of follow-up "Yonder Is The Clock," out April 7.

The Felice Brothers play with Taylor Hollingsworth Friday, March 13, 8 p.m. at the Club at Water Street, 204 N Water St. $12-$14. 546-3887, waterstreetmusic.com.
