Educated at the renowned Berklee School of Music, fiddler/drummer/singer Laura Cortese has been instrumental in the resurgence of the Boston acoustic music scene - for instance, she co-founded the Boston Celtic Music Festival. In her own work, Cortese serves up a lively blend of traditional Scottish/Irish music and her own insightful, thoughtful songwriting. A master of the Celtic fiddle, she draws on influences as disparate as Neko Case and Otis Redding. Her energetic live show entices dancing and audience participation. When she performs at the Harmony House, Cortese will be joined by electric guitarist Jefferson Hammer, whose playing augments Cortese's ability to create rhythmic, melodic Celtic music.
Laura Cortese plays Thursday, March 5, 8 p.m., at Harmony House, 58 E Main St, Webster. $10 suggested donation. 271-3354.
