CLASSICAL: Nina Assimakopoulos (4/13)

By Brenda Tremblay on April 8, 2009

It's the simplest thing, really - just a metal tube with holes. But in the hands of Nina Assimakopoulos, the flute is a kite, a nymph, a bolt of lightning. The Bowling Green professor shows off the whole spectrum of sounds possible on the contemporary flute in a program of music by Debussy, Payne, Fukushima, Shulamit Ran, and Ian Clarke's "Zoom Tube." An expressive speaker, she'll talk about techniques and new repertoire for flute.

Assimakopoulos performs Monday, April 13, 7 p.m. at SUNY Geneseo, Brodie Hall, Rm. 208. Free. 245-5824.
