Derived from the Czech word "pulka," meaning "half step," the polka was allegedly first danced by a young lady named Anna Slazak in Prague in 1830. Flash forward to today, Verona, New York, home to Fritz's Polka Band. The band is unique in that it features a twin-accordion attack, which sometimes includes the Slovenian button box accordion. Formed in 1986 by Fritz Scherz, Sr. and his son Fritz, Jr. the band has won countless awards, including multiple newspapers' "Best Of" awards and even a Congressional Proclamation.

Thanks for posting this, Frank! We truly appreciate it. Not being picky, but we actually formed the band in 1978. It's hard to believe we're going on our 31st year. Hope to meet you one of these days. Again, thank you.
