Dickey Betts and Great Southern play Thursday, June 11 at the Riverside Festival Site.
As an original member of the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts brought a country/folk feel to that pioneering Southern rock aggregation. He penned perhaps the band's best-known song, "Ramblin' Man," and helped shift the group's focus from gritty blues to more freestyle formats, especially on the landmark "Brothers and Sisters" album in 1973. Since leaving the Allmans, Betts has recorded with several different supporting casts, including his latest line-up, Great Southern, which continues the jam-band tradition Betts helped pioneer. The group kicks off the annual Party in the Park series in what promises to include an assortment of Betts classics and more contemporary efforts.
