HIP-HOP/RAP: Random (7/3)

By Phillip Miner on July 1, 2009

I personally don't know many video game-oriented geeks out there who listen to hip-hop, but hip-hop musician Raheem Jarbo, better known as Random, may very well increase that number here in Rochester. His techno-edged, politically conscious music will most definitely have your head nodding to the rhythm, geek or not. But the retro video game influences he brings to the genre provide a unique sound that will have gamers out there giving a thumbs-up to the material regardless of their genre preference. I mean, Random's been endorsed and licensed by Capcom, creators of Mega Man and Street Fighter. What more could you possibly want?

Random performs Friday, July 3, 10 p.m. at Dubland Underground, 315 Alexander St. 232-7550.
