Chris Cain's father- who was born and raised on Memphis' famed blues mecca of Beale Street - imbued his son with a love of the music of Muddy Waters and the three Kings (that would be B.B., Albert, and Freddie). Chris applied those lessons as soon as he first picked up a guitar at age 8, and by his late teens he had become a self-taught axe master. He soon added mastery of bass, piano, clarinet, and sax to his repertoire, and immersed himself in formal jazz training. By the time Cain released his debut record in 1987, he had taken all of those influences and melded them into a brand of funky, driving blues that features instrumental virtuosity and passionate vocals.
