Back in the early 1800's Clarissa Street was known as High Street and Caledonia Avenue in Rochester's Third Ward. It was in the middle of the City's first black community. Flash forward to the mid-20th century and Clarissa Street was hoppin' with joints like The Elk's Club, Dan's Restaurant and Grill, Shep's Paradise, and The Pythodd Club earning the area the title of Rochester's Broadway. For 14 years now they've celebrated the musical climate that was this area with The Clarissa Street Reunion. Things kick of with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by a day of arts, crafts, grub, and music from folks like Joe Beard, Jimmie Highsmith, Gap Mangione, Mitty and the Followers, and The Mt. Olivet Baptist Choir.

Clarissa Street Reunion takes place Saturday, August 15, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Clarissa Street between Troup & McCree. Free. 454-2680.

So wish I could be there. I miss the "blues" so much and haven't found any really good music down here yet. Tell Joe B. that Patti (the John Mooney connection) says hi and hope he's enjoying the summer. Wish someone would promote some real blues here in Charlotte, NC......

I go to a lot's of festival Clarissa Street Jazz Blues Festival are real you feel the vibe in the air. Mitty and the Followers we love those guys the music.play in the sun
It's a cliche to talk about the weather but a perfect day produces results that go far beyond normal circumstances. Rarely has the weather at Jazz Fest been better than in 2009 and the crowds responded to the music on a mass, folk scene level.
Towards the end of the set Mitty and the followers it into high gear for "Mitty" and Stevie Lyon played a great guitar solo, followed and there was a hell of a lot of energy in that R &B stage crowd. "All u hear scream" yelled Mitty and scream they did as the band played a funk strut with June really smoking and Jason Mingledorff playing a soulful tenor break in his own style mixing lots of elements. Mitty's left hand upside down bass is popping along and Paul is slinging the drum groove. Mitty drives into a bass solo and the crowd is all over it. "Clarissa Fest I can feel the funky soul music?" Sammie G solos on B3 organ, then as Mitty plays another bass solo, singing Don't let the green grass fool you, it were all over. The resultant roar provers that he has the temperature of this crowd down.

Combining the group's chemistry with individual music experiences makes for an unbeatable combination of charisma, energy and just plain good for your soul insurance. They move the crowd visually as well as musically.

Everything time I See you guys absolutely perfect and so professional. You guys were awesome. . I definitely owe my 2 hours on the dance floor . The music was great and got everyone grooving. Once Mitty begin to sing Don't Let The Grass Fool You, I thought the walls were going to come down between the music and the people on the dance floor jumping about. I had the exact same feeling on the dance Steve and Guys are true Musician.

Why haven't we seen more female jazz vocalist at this event? We have been wanting to hear whitney marchelle this girl plays all around town. Memorial Art Gallery, George Eastman house, Carengie Hall Ny blue note and when we ask her when she is going to be on your festival she says she has not heard from you guys.. We feel local talent men or considered first on your jazz festival more so than the ladies.
