From Christine Lavin-esque mirth to mellow blues, to tunes that are virtually secular hymns, JoAnn Vaccaro's new album "What I'd Cook 4 U" is brilliant and brilliantly all over the map. And besides the guitar (which she also straps on in the klezmer calamity Hypnotic Clambake) Vaccaro plays a variety of instruments like the slide whistle and a skillet with an egg frying in it. She sings ultra-pretty with no drama. I could listen to her for hours. And though "What I'd Cook 4 U" is a generally a light-hearted affair, songs like "Believe" will get you hot 'n' bothered with its cocktail shake, only to have "Them Blues" cool you down.

JoAnn, with or without Clambake, is the most wonderful music act in upstate NY.
I hope she will perform at our festival again in 2010. This talent belongs in California, (like I told her). NY be proud and check her out while you still can.
