BLUES: Fiona Boyes (9/19)

A native of Australia, Boyes first hit our shores in 2003, winning the International Blues Challenge. And with Pinetop Perkins' endorsement, comparing her finger picking to Memphis Minnie, she's never stopped running. Described as a "one-woman blues tent revival," Boyes claims your attention like a come-to-Jesus meetin', and there's no rascalin' your way out as Boyes pins you to her pulpit. For this show, she brings her acoustic trio, accompanied by Mookie Brill on upright bass and Rich DelGrosso on mandolin.

Fiona Boyes plays Saturday, September 19, 8 p.m., at GCC's Stuart Steiner Theatre, 1 College Rd, Batavia. $5-$10. 343-0055 x6814.

Fiona is a way tasty blues monster. She can handle a brass dominated torch song as well as a solo delta blues guitar ballad. I hear a lot of her material on XM radio. We met at the Syracuse Blues Fest circa 2004 and she dropped many jaws then. I won't be able to see the show, but I'll see her in the future. Moe Whiskey.
