When they're not busy backing honky-tonk bandleader Slim Forsythe, playing together in the punk-country band ATS, or appearing in various other Pittsburgh acts, Erin Snyder and Evan Knauer like to strip things down for a little no-frills duo action. As unpretentious as they come, Snyder and Knauer are keen on easygoing stage banter, rolling through theirs set at a lollygagging pace. It might seem simple to put an audience at ease, but this duo has a knack for it. Together, they provide a welcome relief from all these acts that press too hard for an authentic sound. And, while Hank Williams is a primary influence, Erin and Evan's music bears the distinct flavor of their home state's long and deep country tradition, spanning not just Pittsburgh but also Pennsylvania's rural Northern Tier region. Jon Moses, Solomon Blaylock, and Amber McAlister fill the bill.
