Local group Parotia's lull of reggae-influence grooves and chik-chick guitar washes over you like a gentle breeze. While some musicians revel in making people anxious, Parotia goes full-swing in the opposite direction, intending with every note to instill a sense of well being in the audience. While some in that audience will probably be content with the band's more straight-ahead material, its extra touches make for some interesting detours. The line-up fluctuates between three and five members, and the studio recordings benefit greatly from full, fleshed-out arrangements that include horns, female backing vocals, synths, assorted percussion, and flute. During especially adventurous moments, Parotia induces a rather pleasant sense of free fall that make you scratch your head and wonder, "Where is this going next?" Troyka and Josh Netsky Group fill the bill.
