ROCK: Counting Crows (9/6)

By Todd Rezsnyak on September 2, 2009

The Counting Crows hit it big with their debut, "August and Everything After," featuring the ubiquitous single "Mr. Jones," and never looked back. A string of radio hits, including "A Long December" and "Hangin' Around" cemented the band's popularity in the 90's. While more recent songs, like "Accidentally in Love" (from "Shrek 2") and their cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" have perhaps moved them more in an adult-contemporary direction, the group remains a modern rock band at heart, with a solid live show. Augustana is a more piano-driven pop affair; its breezy and earnest pop hit "Boston" caught attention during the summer of 2007, and the sound is similar to that of The Fray, though perhaps with a little more sheen.

Counting Crows and Augustana play Sunday, September 6, 8 p.m. at CMAC, 4355 Lakeshore Dr, Canandaigua. $25-$65. 393-4880.
