ROCK: Juanita and the Rabbit (9/22)

By Frank De Blase on September 16, 2009

Brett and Elizabeth Cline play beautifully and simply. And as Juanita and the Rabbit, this San Francisco duo somehow give beautiful and simple an ominous air, a dark bravado. Maybe it's the darker and deeper sonic limits of bass and drum that pump a little noir into the funshine. And maybe it's the uncluttered approach to its bluesy, garage-y repertoire that'll hook you immediately. I mean, c'mon, the band even covers Motorhead's "Orgasmatron" (Lemmy's best lyrical outing, if you don't include "Ace Of Spades"). Juanita and the Rabbit cuts out the fat but leaves the grease. It's got balls and you're gonna have one too.

Juanita and the Rabbit play Tuesday, September 22, 8 p.m., at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $6-$8. 454-2699.
