BLACK METAL: Chthonic (10/22)

By Todd Rezsnyak on October 21, 2009

Chthonic is a black metal sextet that hails from Taiwan, and the band uses the lore from its nation's history to help formulate the lyrics to its dark songs. In 2007, Chthonic), became the first Asian rock band to ever tour as a part of Ozzfest, which helped fuel interest in the group stateside. While musically in the same vein as prior tour mates Cradle of Filth, Chthonic frequently employ the use of a hena, which is an Asian instrument that roughly resembles a violin. The songs are loud and fast - the drums often pop like machine-gun fire in your ears - and thematically dark. Chthonic is growling and visceral rock.
