Earlier this year City Newspaper did a story on Rochester's building reputation as an "organ city," with a handful of diverse, yet musically and historically significant, organs within her confines. This weekend the folks at least partially responsible for the local organ movement - the Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative - will hold their annual festival, showing off the incredible instruments' abilities as well as celebrating all things organ. With the theme "Mendelssohn and the Contrapuntal Tradition," the festival will feature a variety of lectures, special events, and concerts, some of which are open to the public. But note: tickets are a hot commodity; check in advance through the RPO box office (454-2100, rpo.org).
