For many of the faithful, 1977 was punk rock's Year 1, CBGBs was the dirty little manger, and the Bowery its Bethlehem. All kinds of saviors and prophets arose from this legendary NYC dive. The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Blondie, The Heartbreakers, Television, Patti Smith, The Voidoids, and more created a scene built on rebellion and frustration in an attempt to resuscitate rock 'n' roll. Some 30 years later, rock 'n' roll is still in its death throes, and punk rock is still there with the middle finger and the mouth-to-mouth. This is gonna go on forever, especially with CBGB offspring like The Grinders, The Emersons, Clockmen, Hotel Reverie, The Grievants, Sarah Purr and others, all saluting the loud and visceral big bang that still rings in our ears and hearts.
