ROCK: Los Fadeaways (10/30)

I haven't seen this band in almost 25 years, but can still remember them distinctly. The Fadeaways, as they were known back then, played Gretsch guitars, wore leather jackets, had greasy hair, and girlfriends with grown-up parts. I wanted to be these guys, bad. The music sprang from the early Beatles's stab at pub rock and rockabilly. I particularly remember the band's version of Warren Smith's "Ubangi Stomp." It was pop fun with switchblade swagger and rock 'n' roll menace. This band, along with The Fugitives, changed my life and is responsible for a lot of the choices I made as a young musician. I'm not sure if I should thank or blame them.
