ROCK 'N' ROLL: The New Rascals (10/24)

By Frank De Blase on October 21, 2009

One of my late father's ravings on the evils of rock music would often end with "You don't want to wind up like Gene Cornish, do you?" You see, Cornish and my dad grew up together. My dad, the crew-cut square, Cornish the long-haired, guitar-slinging rocker. Years later my little sister Bridget and I would dance around in our underwear playing air guitar to early Gene Cornish and the Unbeatables' songs like "Do The Capri" and "Winner Take All." Well, Cornish went on to form The Young Rascals and have a bunch of hits, and my dad became a drycleaner. I guess you know my answer to his question. The New Rascals, featuring original members Cornish and Dino Dinelli, play as part of the Sixties Spectacular along with remnants of Herman's Hermits and The Turtles. Not sure about Bridget, but I'll be there in my underwear.

The New Rascals play as part of the Sixties Spectacular Saturday, October 24, 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorium Theatre, 875 E Main St. $43-$50. 232-1900, rbtl.org.
