Kids are always hitting me up with questions: "Frank, where do babies come from?" Or, "If I'm going to shoot a mime, should I use a silencer?" But most recently they want to know about skiffle. And now with the new Honky Tonk Dance Hall series that Bruce Handelman and crew are putting together, we're all gonna find out. Skiffle has roots in early New Orleans Jazz and jug band music. Skiffle experienced a resurgence in England in the 1950's, contributing to the Brits' take on the rumblings of early rock 'n' roll that was just making their shores. Buffalo's Skiffle Minstrels have some Colorblind James in their blood, with Gary Meixner playing the lap steel. The band skiffles with hints of rock and bluegrass on tunes from Louis Jordan to Hank Williams to The Beatles.

The Skiffle Minstrels play Saturday, October 10, 8 p.m. at Harmony House, 58 E Main St, Webster. $10-$12. 727-4119.
