JAZZ: Ted Perry (11/5)

By Ron Netsky on November 4, 2009

Pianist Ted Perry has a served as a sideman with Kenny Burrell, Ernie Watts, and Nick Brignola, but he'll be heading his own group Thursday evening at an unlikely venue, the Academy of Medicine. Aside from original compositions, Perry will put his own spin on some classics, with new arrangements of music by Ellington and Monk. He's even transformed a classical piece, Fritz Kreisler's "Liebesleid," into a Latin tune. His once-a-month series, featuring the piano trio with occasional horns, will continue over the next several months with shows built around themes ranging from Ellington to Jobim.

Ted Perry performs Thursday, November 5, 8 p.m. at the Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1141 East Ave. $10-$15. tedperrymusic.com.
