I wonder if "for a good time call The Hot Seats" is written on every bathroom wall in Richmond, Virginia. It should be, and perhaps we can carry on the tradition up here. A highly entertaining band, with songs about sleepover parties of giggling girls, The Hot Seats is just as likely to tell you what the ugliest part of your body is via Zappa. The band is just as irreverent and multifarious as its former namesake - Special Ed & The Shortbus. It's just a bit more professional now. (Read: the members have stopped shocking just for shock's sake, and want to show you just how tight and precise they are underneath all those satirical stories.) The band has taken its raw talent and honed and crafted it precisely to sound easy and effortless.
The Hot Seats play Tuesday, November 17, 8:30 p.m. at Abilene, 153 Liberty Pole Way. Free. 232-3230.
