"Messiah" is Handel's most famous work, composed in 1741 and premiered in 1742. The oratorio is basically a Cliff's Notes of well-known scripture, and because of that has been extremely popular since its premiere, particularly around Christmas and Easter. Led by music director David Fetler, the RCO's production opens the group's 2009-2010 season and features the 2009 RCO Classical Idol winner, soprano Jacqueline Noparstak. Also appearing are mezzo-soprano Leah Wool, as well as internationally known tenor Douglas Ahlstedt and Dean Peterson, bass. Featured on the program are the Festival Singers as well as the Bach Children's Chorus, one of the area's best children's music ensembles.
