Someone much more eloquent than I once said, "The pen is mightier than the sword." Ithaca's own Gunpoets are quite familiar with this, and put the theory into practice regularly. The band's brand of live rebel rap echoes the sentiments heard in barrios across the globe, and the name is filled with sound and fury, while absolutely signifying something. The Gunpoets are described as "explosive yet calm... their vibe is one of rebellion and love." The sound can be described as hip-hop-centric world music, with touches of the heavy, the jazzy, the soulful, and the groovy. As comfortable playing with rap acts as it is with jam bands, this show sees the band sharing the stage with local hip-hop band Subsoil. Join the revolution.
The Gunpoets play Friday, December 18, 10 p.m. at The Dub Land Underground, 315 Alexander St. $5-$15. 232-7550.
