Tim Blane took a detour around the Coke vs. Pepsi Pop War, deftly navigating himself into the bubbly spot between both sides. Selected for a Coke promotion through its rewards program, he also writes ringtones for Pepsi. And if that's not enough, he was hand-picked by Steve Jobs to be an instructor for Apple's GarageBand software, along with the likes of Sting, Sarah McLachlan, Ben Folds, and John Fogerty, among others. You may have heard Blane, but not heard of him. He's kinda like John Mayer, only with less schmaltz and more depth and honesty. He's got those clever lyrics goin' on like Squeeze and Elvis Costello, with metaphors and similes that stretch the imagination. His melodies and harmonies are the perfect mix of pop hooks and unique tunes. Catch him in this intimate club setting while you can.

Tim Blane plays Monday, December 7, 8 p.m. at Easy on East, 170 East Ave. 325-6484.
