Formed in 1900, the Band of the Irish Guards - the Queen's own - finally makes it across the pond to play for the colonists, and Rochester is one of its first stops. The large outfit of 49 musicians forms a variety of musical troupes, including marching, concert, salon, and dance bands. Taking time away from its main duty of playing accompaniment to the rotating Beefeaters, the Guards bring a slew of instruments along with swords and dancing feet. Accompanying the Guards is the Royal Regiment of Scotland, scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan in June. The night is sure to be full of pomp and circumstance. I hope they can all find a decent cup of tea beforehand.
The Band of the Irish Gaurds plays Friday, January 29, at 8 p.m. at the Nazareth College Arts Center, 4245 East Ave. $40-70. 389-2700.
