The king is gone, but he's not forgotten. This will be the Buddhahood and friends' second annual January Thaw, a world/alternative extravaganza to celebrate the birthday and life of Buddhahood founder, leader, guru, godfather, etc., Tony Cavagnaro. The band has gone through some changes musically and in its line-up recently, and it's had to find its way through choppy seas without Cavagnaro at the helm. But the Buddhahood abides. In my opinion, the trials the band has gone through have led to the creation of some beautiful music and beautiful moments on stage. The band is itself a living, breathing entity, bigger than the sum of its parts - kind of like the big man himself.
January Thaw w/The Buddhahood plays Saturday, January 30, at 8 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $10-15. 325-5600.
