Michael Weiss was fresh out of college when legendary singer Jon Hendricks hired him as his pianist. Since then he's been a sought-after sideman, playing with greats like Art Farmer, Jimmy Heath, and Johnny Griffin. In addition to his keyboard prowess, Weiss is an excellent composer. In 2000 he was awarded the grand prize in the prestigious BMI/Thelonious Monk Institute Composers Competition. And on his four albums as a leader his compositions are as outstanding as his playing. Both will be showcased when he is featured in an Eastman Chamber Jazz concert.

Michael Weiss plays Monday, January 25, 8 p.m. at Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs St. Free. 271-1000.
