ROCK: JEFF the Brotherhood (2/3)

Stringy beards, grungy leather pants, and salty, stale beer: the stench of rock ‘n' roll clings closely to JEFF the Brotherhood. That is to say, Nashville brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall play bare-bones, shred-heavy punk with sugar-sweet hooks. Though still in their early 20s, the pair knows its way around the kit and fretboard, respectively. The brothers previously spent time in the now-defunct young-punk outfit Be Your Own Pet before focusing on endless touring and recording on their own. JEFF's latest LP, "Heavy Days," stocked with both rockers and hazy jams, came out on the Orrall family-run Inifinity Cat Records, a small but vital operation co-headed by dad, who himself is a country songwriter. Openers Dinosaur Bones (who also play House of Guitars, 645 Titus Ave, at 6 p.m.) and The Celebration of Man both put their own spin on dramatic post-punk.

JEFF the Brotherhood plays Wednesday, February 3, at 9 p.m. at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $8. 454-2966.

I went to school in Nashville. Everybody's favorite band there and for good reason. They are pure fun live.
